The philosophy in all of our PSD classrooms is students first. When you visit an SBJC PSD classroom, you find an environment that is child-friendly with students participating in programs focusing on intensive/early intervention. Applying the principles of ABA, the SBJC identifies age-appropriate behaviors and creates a system that incorporates positive motivation and reinforcement for students.

Our Autism Program uses Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) as its primary approach in order to alter behaviors and positively influence how learning takes place. All classes have a 2:1 student to staff ratio. We utilize centers-based instruction focusing on academic, social-emotional, communication, and functional living skills.

Our Emotional Regulation Impairment Program philosophy is to provide comprehensive supports to the child and their family, with a focus on the whole child. We take several measures in order to achieve this approach: district-wide behavior system; classrooms staffed at a 2:1 ratio; positive behavior supports; reinforcement-rich environment; and reinforced replacement behaviors.

Our Multiple Disabilities program blends a curriculum of academic and functional skills to provide students with specialized learning to foster their independence. Our MD Classrooms located in our Annexes serve students with diverse academic and developmental needs who require a more generalized curriculum and a range of teaching methods, in addition to having regular access to inclusive activities in a general public school setting.

SBJC’s Students Transitioning to Adult Responsibilities (STAR) Program’s purpose is to facilitate a successful transition for students from high school to adulthood, empowering these young adults to become active members of society and the workforce. The program offers our 18-21 learners opportunities to explore the local community under the guidance of their teachers, job coaches, and therapists.
